About us

Newport Orchestra is an enthusiastic amateur orchestra with members of all ages.

We strive to provide a balance between fun and informality whilst also embracing the desire to improve each individuals’ skills and talents and to be able to perform as a coherent and confident orchestra that all are proud to be a part of.

For the last 100 years, the orchestra has served Newport and the surrounding areas with public and private concerts and events.

Our conductor is Noel Bertram. Amongst his experiences, he has been Principal Conductor at Lancaster University Symphony Orchestra and most notably the Westmorland Youth Orchestra.

Noel has introduced an imaginative and well-researched programme which challenges and stretches players’ abilities. He successfully teaches orchestral skills and lets the players experience a wide range of musical styles.

The Orchestra is a non-profit organisation and is run by a committee of various orchestra members and yearly AGM's are held. Essentials such as Child Protection Policies are in place to ensure any younger members have appropriate safeguards in place. At present we welcome members from age 16 upwards.

We rehearse at:
