The Orchestra began life as part of the Pleasant Sunday Afternoon (PSA) movement.  Meetings began with an uplifting talk and a prayer.  The orchestra gave a concert with a guest singer on the first Sunday of the month.

Originally there were two PSAs in Newport, but by the late 1940s there was only one, and now over 100 years later the orchestra is still going strong!  The name changed to Newport Concert Orchestra around 1960.  The Orchestra is a non-profit organisation.

The orchestra has a large library of its own accumulated over the years; this consists of waltzes, marches and selections from musical shows, to overtures, suites and symphonies.

This is an extract from a programme of a concert given by the PSA, held in the Central Hall in Newport, on 17th February 1910.
